What was bad about the hunger games

One of the last successful YA dystopian adaptations, The Hunger Games stands ahead of the pack with its powerful portrayal of political control, inequality, and survival and critically praised performances by Jennifer Lawrence as the heroic protagonist and female tribute Katniss Everdeen, Josh Hutcherson as the heart-of-gold baker's son and male tribute Peeta Mellark, and Donald Sutherland as the chilling head of Panem, President Snow.

Despite the success of the first and second film, however, the final two films in the franchise suffered from a dying interest in YA film franchises. Despite the waning interest in YA film franchises, all four of the films in The Hunger Games series, including the final two installments, still stand ahead of the YA pack, even now, almost a decade after the first film's premiere. Without further ado, we present to you a ranking of the films in the series, from worst to best:.

Unfortunately, also like the novel, Mockingjay - Part 2 was not met with great critical success. The final film in the Hunger Games franchise struggles with quick, disjointed pacing. The last 30 minutes of Part 2 feel particularly dissonant. Major plotlines are glossed over, especially the aftermath of Prim's Willow Shields death, which should have been given more screen time.

The major characters, particularly Katniss and Gale Liam Hemsworth , undergo major character changes that are relatively unexplored. That being said, there are still great moments in the trilogy's conclusion, from Katniss's unexpected arrow that kills Coin to quieter moments between Boggs Mahershala Ali and Katniss. After the first three films built up the tension for an epic conclusion, however, Mockingjay - Part 2 was a slight let-down.

When Katniss tells him that they were instrumental in helping to keep her alive, Gale is not satisfied with her answer. If he cannot understand why the world isn't as black and white for Katniss, then he will never understand her journey in the Games.

Many fans have argued that Katniss would sometimes string Peeta and Gale along, which can be partially true when it comes to some parts of Catching Fire. In this book, Gale and Katniss were seen to grow closer, with the coal miner confessing his love for her. Katniss was also seen to pick Gale after he received a public lashing from the Peacekeepers.

However, she is later torn between her feelings for Peeta when she kisses him in the 75th annual Hunger Games. If Katniss was confused over her feelings, she only had to say so. By kissing Gale, she would give him hope that they had a chance and that wasn't fair to him if she was unsure.

On the other hand, Gale was in the wrong when he was seen to pressure Katniss with his feelings. In Mockingjay, Katniss was seen to get frustrated with the soldier when she overhears him talking to Peeta about who she loved most. As a result, she tried to distance herself from the pair. Whilst it can be frustrating to not get an answer, Gale seems to forget that Katniss is no ordinary woman and has other prioritizes on her mind.

How can she think about her love life when the Rebellion was relying on her to usurp Snow and the Capitol? The last thing he should be thinking about is if she felt the same way as him. If Katniss struggled to kill Gale then what made her think that Gale could do it to her?

In Mockingjay, Katniss asked her long-time friend to kill her after she assassinated President Coin instead of President Snow. Whilst Gale's wish for death was because he wanted to avoid becoming the Capitol's puppet, Katniss' is more to do with depression and not facing the consequences of her actions. Gale would have never forgiven himself, especially after he was a cause of her downward spiral. Fans couldn't help but roll their eyes at Gale whenever he got jealous over Peeta.

It was something that did get old pretty quick, especially when it came to Mockingjay. Whilst Peeta was captured by the Capitol and used as a puppet, Gale grew indifferent to him. When Katniss was able to barter a pardoning for Peeta, Gale's body was described to be tense. Even now, I can see that the plot motif, of teenagers in a contest where they must kill one another, might threaten sentimental ideas of what children are or ought to be.

The film places us in a post-apocalyptic world, though there is no sign of how the end came and no trace of a toxic aftermath. So the apocalypse is just a pretext for a peasant community lorded over by an eccentric super race and their police force.

The rulers have whatever technologies the script needs; the ordinary people have very little, except bread, humble virtue as in silent cinema , and waiting for the lottery. Every year, the ruling class put on a show: Teenagers from the twelve districts are selected at random to engage in mortal combat.

Only one will survive. Katniss Everdeen the names do seem to have been affected by fall-out becomes one of the contestants when she volunteers to take the place of her younger sister in the Games. I gather that in the book Katniss is 16, but here she is played by Jennifer Lawrence, who is Lawrence has great ability, and the publicity says she got in shape for this adventurous role.
