Frankenstein Mary Shelley. Great Expectations Charles Dickens. George Orwell's dystopian masterpiece, Nineteen Eighty-Four is perhaps the most pervasively influential book of the twentieth century, making famous Big Brother, newspeak and Room Hidden away in the Record Department of the sprawling Ministry of Truth, Winston Smith skilfully rewrites the past to suit the needs of the Party.
Yet he inwardly rebels against the totalitarian world he lives in, which demands absolute obedience and controls him through the all-seeing telescreens and the watchful eye of Big Brother, symbolic head of the Party.
In his longing for truth and liberty, Smith begins a secret love affair with a fellow-worker Julia, but soon discovers the true price of freedom is betrayal. Eric Arthur Blair , better known by his pen-name, George Orwell, was born in India, where his father worked for the Civil Service. An author and journalist, Orwell was one of the most prominent and influential figures in twentieth-century literature. I think the message of the book is that people will continue to use the weak people that need help, to take the power.
I think that you should read this book because it shows in a good way how the revolution happened. Just finished reading this book in my English class and it really had an impact on me. It showed me how the events leading to the russian revolution and the Stalinist era in a more fun way I should say, and even How the Stalinism really worked.
I see a lot of comments being made in and only that is a strong point by itself. And also how the animals can be turned into real life characters. Like the one where the animals start complaining about the pigs getting more apple and milk than the rest of the farm. How can a pig even say that something is proven by science? It shows us the cruelty of dictatorships just like in North Korea for example.
The allegory of the book is done very well, just like i said before.. It shows us the cruelty of dictatorship. And it does it very good by showing the rise of one, and also how it builds up towards the ending and of course… the ending. One of my fav book! Thank you for the E-Book. Amazing novel!
